San Diego Christmas DUI Checkpoints
Every year in December, law enforcement in San Diego will be adding extra cops on the street looking for impaired drivers around Christmas time. There will be DUI checkpoints all over San Diego county the next few weekends looking to catch drivers after they have consumed alcohol. People will be attending work-sponsored Christmas parties and family gatherings, where alcohol will be flowing freely. If you are attending one of these work Christmas parties or family get togethers, make sure that you plan ahead. Get a designated driver or keep the number to a cab company with you before you head out the door. Even if you have only had one drink, if you admit that to the officer and/or he smells it on you, plan on exiting your car and participating in field sobriety tests.
A DUI is one of the only crimes that a person can be arrested for based upon the officer's subjective observations of them. The officers are often wrong and arrest people that are not under the influence. That person will have to go through the trouble of having their car towed, handcuffs put on and placed into a jail cell after being fingerprinted and photographed and will even have to post bail or be forced to sit in jail for a couple of days until their court date. Don't be one of these people.
